HUNGER
Hunger has been the biggest issue in the past and a very dangerous one. When a famine hits some place, the destruction of human life is massive and hordes of people die. UN's Food and Agriculture organisation defines hunger as the daily consumption of fewer than 1800 kcal by an individual. Hunger is caused by several reasons such as shortage of food or increase in population inordinately which links back to shortage of food again. In 2015 $1900 billion were spent on arms and ammunition whereas only $190 billion is required to eradicate world hunger. When the priorities are overlooked for selfish reasons, the general public has to suffer. Poor countries such as In Africa and Asia majorly are unable to meet their consumption demands and their defense budgets are over the moon. We again come to the root cause that illiteracy has a much bigger role in this play. 45% of children deaths in South Asia is due to malnutrition and this percentage increases in Africa. As I have aforementioned the vast majority of Hunger stricken people live in developing countries and 12.9% are undernourished. Hunger and poverty are correlated and I will discuss the latter in next article. Hunger destabilizes the economy and the improvement in this sector is sought by every poor country so as to survive and then prosper.
Solution:
Hunger has plain solutions that a child is taught since forever but difficult to implement. The current predicament is due to neglect and corruption and then lack of knowledge. UN had started a program called FAO(Food and Agriculture organization) and it constantly is planing to improve agriculture to supply enough food to feed at the very least the producers own country. Investment is direly needed in public services such as access to portable water, sanitation and preventive and curative health care. Climate is a great factor influencing hunger indirectly, climate changes affect agricultural output. This must be reduced though no permanent solution is present to tackle climate challenge. The governments of different countries must find an efficient and effective solution to this and not ignore it because every life MATTERS.
